Synopsis: Set amidst the splendor of the Austrian Alps in 1938, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved classic, The Sound of Music, the last of nine musicals created by the team, has won the hearts of audiences the world over. This is the enchanting story of Maria, a spirited young novice who leaves the Abbey to become a governess to seven motherless children. In the process, she finds her true destiny, falling in love with their father, and transforming their lives by the power of music and the magic of love. The inspiring story of their escape from the Nazi menace not only ran for four years on Broadway, winning seven Tony awards, but was made into the most popular film musical of all time. The glorious score includes timeless favorites such as “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss ,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Climb Every Mountain.”

We would like to thank everyone who auditioned for The Sound of Music!  It was a phenomenal turnout – 110 children and nearly 50 adults – for a show with basically very few roles.  Unfortunately we were not able to cast all of the extremely talented individuals who auditioned – there were many very tough choices.  To those who did not get cast, we encourage you to consider working behind the scenes – we will need lots of help!  For information regarding crew work, please contact Linda Peasley, Producer, 517-548-6577 or lpeasley@umich.edu

Congratulations to the following cast members!  We are thrilled with this wonderful group and look forward to an exciting time creating the show with you.

First rehearsal – “Actor Roundup” is Monday night, August 23, 6:30 – 9:30 pm at the school.  All materials will be handed out and we will be reading through Act I as a “Sing-a-long.”

And thank you again to everyone – it was a great audition!
